Meta Quest Headsets: Controller Tracking Plan Settings

Devices Used:

  • Quest 3

  • UDCAP VR Gloves

The devices listed above are used in this tutorial demonstration. You can substitute them with devices that have similar functionality.

1. Launch UDCAP Software

2. Launch Steam and Run SteamVR

Please start Steam with the same privileges as UDCAP software to ensure consistent privileges and prevent plugin loading failures.

For example, if the V0.1.6 version of UDCAP software is installed on the C drive, it will start by default with administrator privileges, so you need to start Steam with the same administrator privileges.

Starting privileges of different versions of UDCAP

software V0.1.6: If installed on the C drive, this version starts by default with administrator privileges; if installed on other drives, it starts by default with normal privileges.

Between V0.1.3 and V0.1.5: UDCAP software starts by default with administrator privileges.

Before V0.1.3: Starts by default with normal privileges.

3. Enable UDCAP Plugin

In SteamVR, go to: Settings → Startup/Shutdown → Manage Add-ons, find the ucap plugin, and ensure it is enabled.

In the Quest headset, launch the SteamLink streaming software and connect to SteamVR.

5. Configure Tracking Plan

In the UDCAP SoftwareSpatial Position, select the Quest Tracking Plan → Click Save.

If you are using a different tracking method, please select the appropriate plan according to your devices. For more details, refer to the "Software Features - Spatial Position" section.

6. Launch udcap_overlay.exe

If, after successfully connecting a self-tracking headset (e.g., Quest series, Pico series) to SteamVR, SteamVR does not recognize the glove and the glove cannot replace the Quest controller for operation, the glove icon in the SteamVR panel is still gray. Please:

  • Udcap Driver 0.1.7.0: Main Page Menu Click [Connect to SteamVR]

  • Udcap Driver 0.1.6.0 and earlier versions: Run the udcap_overlay.exe file with administrator privileges.

After successfully connecting to SteamVR, if SteamVR fails to recognize the glove or the glove cannot replace the controller for operation, please manually run udcap_overlay.exe:

Finding the method:

  1. Locate the UDCAP icon on the desktop, right-click → "Open location of the file".

  2. Enter the udcap-bin-win64 folder.

  3. Find udcap_overlay.exe and launch it.

7. Verify Connection Success

After setup, the glove icon in the SteamVR main interface will be highlighted. This indicates that the glove is correctly connected.
